$40.9 Million Added to the Food Processing Program by the Government of Quebec
Do you have a project to digitize a Quality, OHS, or ESG process? Take advantage of government financial assistance of up to $525,000.
Companies, especially SMEs, can benefit from the Food Processing Program, which supports businesses in carrying out projects that will help increase their productivity and competitiveness.
Since its launch in 2018, the Food Processing Program has provided approximately $235 million in financial assistance to 2,246 projects, resulting in total investments of over $2.3 billion.
This new investment of $40.9 million also provides support for businesses in the face of current market uncertainty.
Furthermore, to strengthen the program’s impact on the food processing sector, certain eligibility criteria have been modified:
The Food Processing Program includes the following four streams:
Stream | Description |
---|---|
Stream 1: Project Planning and Skills Development | Supports the development projects of food processing companies by promoting the use of external expertise and the acquisition of internal skills. |
Stream 2: Workforce Productivity | Increase companies’ productivity by automating and robotizing their processes, as well as by integrating management systems. |
Stream 3: Quality and Food Safety Management | Helps companies develop their markets by supporting the implementation and updating of quality and food safety management systems, as well as the necessary improvements to meet government requirements for access to foreign markets. |
Stream 4: Competitiveness and Environmental Challenges in the Slaughterhouse and Cheese Sectors | Supports slaughterhouses and cheese producers in addressing sector-specific challenges by funding projects aimed at improving their competitiveness and meeting environmental requirements. |
The goal of the Food Processing Program is to support businesses in the food processing sector that are undertaking automation and robotics projects to increase workforce productivity, particularly in response to challenges such as labour shortages. The program also supports market development and the implementation or updating of quality and food safety management systems. In addition, it assists slaughterhouses and cheese producers in implementing environmental solutions.
All eligible companies will be able to apply for financial assistance under the program starting May 7, 2025, until September 30, 2025, or until the budget envelope is exhausted, whichever comes first.
